Singh, a resident of Chandla in Chhatarpur district, was lodged in jail in connection with the 2007 murder of a councillor and the burial of the body.<br/><br/>During his imprisonment, Singh allegedly assisted prison authorities with warrant-related work, which brought him into regular contact with Khatoon. Over time, their professional interactions reportedly developed into friendship and later a relationship.<br/><br/>Singh was released around four years ago after serving nearly 14 years in prison, reportedly due to good conduct. Following his release, the couple decided to formalise their relationship through marriage.<br/><br/>The wedding took place on May 5 in Chhatarpur district. Reports said Singh changed his name on the wedding invitation cards to avoid social scrutiny. The ceremony was conducted according to Vedic rituals and chants.<br/><br/>The interfaith marriage reportedly did not receive support from Khatoon’s Muslim family members, who did not attend the event. In their absence, Vishva Hindu Parishad district vice-president Rajbahadur Mishra and his wife performed the ceremonial ‘kanyadaan’.
